From The Vault – Hrithik Wanted To Quit Films After Kaho Naa Pyar Hai, Here’s Why

Kaho Naa Pyaar Hai released on 14th January, 2000, and became a superhit. Hrithik Roshan became the heartthrob of the nation, and everything seemed to be going perfect in the Roshan household. But fate had other plans. On 21st January, 2000, Rakesh Roshan was shot by Abu Salem’s gang members. One bullet hit his arm, and the other hit his chest. However, Rakesh Roshan survived miraculously.

Apparently, Abu Salem wanted a share in the profits of the film. When Roshan refused, Salem sent two of his gang members to attack him. The two men were later arrested.

However, one can only assume what their family would have gone through, in the aftermath of the attack. Hrithik Roshan, on an episode of Rendezvous with Simi Garewal, opened up about the harrowing time, and how he almost quit the film industry, following this incident.

He said, “From shock to anger to seeing dad there on the hospital bed, it was like I had never seem him like this. Basically, I just wanted to quit. I really wanted to just quit films. Because I knew it was directly or indirectly responsible of what had happened to him and nothing was worth it. So, I just wanted to quit and sometimes I think that I should have. Because it’s very disillusional. Maybe it goes from bad to worse.”

But eventually, Hrithik decided against quitting the film business, and the rest, as they say, is history!
