10 Bollywood Actresses Who Refused Roles In Movies That Had Khans As Lead Actors
Shah Rukh Khan, Aamir Khan, Saif Ali Khan and Salman Khan are the biggest Khans of the film industry. In the world of acting, aspiring actors would kill to be part of a ‘Khan’ movie. And when it comes to romancing a Khan, actresses would consider it as a big opportunity in their career. However, not everyone is looking for a role with just one highlight- “Featuring opposite a Khan”.
Some are inclined towards their personal growth through those roles or the script of the movie. Here are 10 actresses who took a risked their careers and rejected movies despite the fact that they had one or the other Khan in them. And their reasons are quite justifiable.
1. Twinkle Khanna
The directorial debut of Karan Johar, Kuch Kuch Hota Hai was not only a bout of fresh air for the audience but it changed the lives of every actor associated with it. The role of Rani Mukherjee, the second lead in the movie after the Shah Rukh and Kajol duo was basically offered to Twinkle Khanna.
However, not just Twinkle but actresses like Raveena Tandon, Raveena Tandon, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Tabu, Urmila Matondkar and Karisma Kapoor too rejected the movie.
2. Aishwarya Rai
While Aishwarya was contesting for the Miss World beauty pageant, she was offered the lead role in Raja Hindustani. However, Aishwarya chose to skip the role and go ahead with the contest and we guess that was a risk worth taking.
3. Shilpa Shetty
The lady who appeared on the screen as a fresh face with Shah Rukh Khan in Baazigar was the first choice for the 1999 movie Baadshah. However, Shilpa rejected the role eventually as the film kept getting delayed. Later, Twinkle Khanna bagged the role opposite SRK as the movie was a perfect comic opportunity.
4. Kareena Kapoor
Karan Johar, in fact, had written the character of Naina in ‘Kal Ho Naa Ho’ keeping his best friend Kareena Kapoor in his mind. It is reported that Kareena asked for an expensive fee for the movie, almost equal to that of Shah Rukh Khan. Both Karan and Kareena had a very public spat about this and both of them did not speak to each other for nine months post this.
5. Priyanka Chopra
Priyanka Chopra was the first choice for the psychothriller Ghajini which laid the foundation of the 100 crore club tradition. However, the Miss World thought that her role in the movie wasn’t very convincing. This surely must have been a regretful decision for Priyanka because the movie smashed box office records after its release.
Kajol was offered the role of Pia in ‘3 Idiots’ but the actress did not find anything worth staying in the movie and the role went to Kareena. And we all know that despite the fact that the role had a lesser screen space, Kareena still did wonders for the film. In fact, rumors have it that she wanted to work with Rajkumar Hirani and herself approached him for the movie.
7. Amy Jackson
The Salman Khan starrer was also the first one to enter the 200 crore club and none other than Amy Jackson was approached for the role of Shaina Mehra. The role then hopped between Parineeta Chopra, and Vidya Balan who refused to take it up as it did not add much to their career curve. And this is how the role landed in Jacqueline’s lap!
8. Amrita Rao
The ‘Vivaah’ actress was offered the role of playing Salman Khan’s sister Rajkumari Chandrika in Sooraj Barjatya’s magnum opus, Prem Ratan Dhan Paayo. But guess, Amrita Rao did not want to settle in for the role of a sister to the Khan. This was publically reported as well. Some said that she did not want to pick a role that had a negative shade. Later the role was bagged by Swara Bhaskar.
9. Kangana Ranaut
The national award winner, Kangana Ranaut refused to be part of Salman Khan’s Sultan saying that she didn’t want to ‘demote’ herself by going through a role that wasn’t even interesting to her. Coming from a lineage of films with double roles, perhaps, the role of ‘Aarfa’ actually would have been a cakewalk for Kangana.
10. Deepika Padukone
Though Deepika has done films with Saif Ali Khan and Shah Rukh Khan, she too refused to play opposite Salman Khan in Sultan. In fact, she has refused ‘Jai Ho’ (2014), ‘Kick’ (2014), ‘Sher Khan’, ‘Bajrangi Bhaijaan’ (2015), all Salman Khan movies for varied reasons.
This might be the end of our hopes to see Deepika and Salman together!
